Here it is April and we are not quite half way finished with trimming the rabbiteye bushes which are in full bloom.
After a heavy pruning early last season, there were very few blooms on the rabbiteye bushes — then we had a late freeze, which nipped them just as the berries were starting to form — after that, the wild hogs came in and wrecked the bushes just before what was left of the berries were ready to harvest.
The northern highbush berries, as is their nature, are lagging behind in their blooming. We finished cleaning out the rows and around the highbush about a month ago. They could use a small shot of fertilize now.
We have not seen any wild hogs since early last October. Hopefully they have gone on to find an area more to their liking.
We hope to have our new blueberry pavilion completed two or three weeks prior to the start of blueberry season. It will be nice to have a solid cover to escape the spring showers (and for shade when we are out picking the berries).
We are looking forward to blueberry season and hope it will be another improvement over last year as each has been so far. As always, we are at the mercy of the weather. Our winter was colder and much wetter than usual but the rain was less in March than in February. Hopefully, we will continue to have timely rain but more normal than the last two years.

Would like to know when you are ready for picking.
Thanks
